Breakfast @ Zok Noodle House Setia Alam

Zok Noodle House

Setia Alam breakfast food scene had always been missing a proper dim sum. Many independent dim sum houses had come and go, after failing to impress aplenty of disgruntled customers. When Zok Noodle House opened their branch in Setia Alam, we were ecstatic cause we had already tried them (Puchong HQ) and liked it. Finally! A good dimsum in Setia Alam for breakfast!

Being the better dim sum house in Setia Alam has its drawback – there will be a queue on weekend, but nothing too intimidating.

Juicy dimsum at Zok Noodle House Setia Alam

My requirement for a food dim sum is easy – its skin that holds the filings nicely but not too thick nor starchy, filled with decent amount of lean meats. Zok Noodle House did well in this department.

Variety of porridge from Zok Noodle House

I liked their porridge, which was boiled to smooth consistency. Due to the crowd on weekends, only one type of porridge will be available. On a weekday, though, all five porridge menus are available, as their staff/chef has the time to custom-cook for us.

If you’re bored with the run-of-the-mill porridge, I would recommend Lai Wan Style Porridge. I found the combination of duck meat with porridge very pleasant to taste. Zok Noodle House had replaced Porridge Time as my favourite go-to place for porridge.

This is CS’s favourite – Loh Mai Kai or glutinous rice with chicken. I can’t judge this, as it’s been years since I ever come across a good one.

Egg tarts from Zok Noodle House

The egg tarts are surprisingly good, almost rivals Tong Kee’s version, with its crispy thin crust but seems to have lesser lard.

As it’s open from morning till 10 pm, Zok Noodle House offers a variety of main meals for lunch and dinner – pork noodles, wanton noodles and roast items with rice. Their best seller is the wanton noodles, dry or with broth. The noodles are al-dente and comes with fat juicy wanton that justified the price.

On the other hand, the Char Siew Rice is unremarkable, small portion of meat were cut into thin pieces and drenched with sweet sauce. Curry Mee can be passed over without loss. The curry broth is just too salty to drink.
