Strong Woman Do Bong Soon Episode 8 Recap

Episode 8 Recap :

After the Guk Doo’ shove-aside, Guk Doo is stunned for a moment but the impact of Bong Soon’s immense strength did not seem to register in his brain. Now they are joined by two patrolling policemen, who left after being assured that they are alright. Gwang Bok, on the other hand, is crumpled by the walkway from the beating.

Guk Doo apologizes to Bong Soon for not escorting her home, but her upmost concern is whether he is hurt by her shovings. Surprisingly, he brushes it aside as nothing then proceeds to arrest Gwang Bok. Bong Soon picks up Gwang Bok’s walking stick to give back to him but he hisses at her and she retaliates by cheekily sticks out her tongue at him.

Guk Doo left with his criminal cargo and Min Hyuk calls out to Bong Soon. He walks her back home and nags at her – because of her, he can’t feel at ease. They pass by the park and she laments how the world is too dangerous and tough for the weak and women, but she will not hold back anymore.

She turns around to walk home but runs back to confront Min Hyuk about his refusal for transfer. Bong Soon fusses that she will resign, yet softens when Min Hyuk emphasizes that he is on her side. She will get her transfer once they cautch the killer (who is now entangled with Bong Soon’s life). Min Hyuk extends his hand for a pinky swear but is brushed aside by Bong Soon.

Min Hyuk buzzes about her stubbornness in joining the development team, when she could have develop a game together with him. She rebuts, citing her desire to work like a full-time employee, being acknowledged and wear proper ID tags. She throws him a disheartened goodbye and sprints away. Min Hyuk sniggers and yells out a cute goodbye.

Guk Doo accuses Gwang Bok of trying to abduct Bong Soon, who had ‘kindly’ withdrew charges from his ‘previous manhandling case’. Gwang Bok lets out a loud sigh and tries to lay out the actual scenario. He is the victim who was hospitalised for a long list of Bong Soon-inflicted injuries. Team Leader sounds sympathetic but doesn’t really buy his story. Guk Doo gets riled up at his words, “Do Bong Soon is not a woman.” And they drag him into lockup, dropping his fake teeth in the scuffle.

At a corner, Guk Doo’s pain (from Bong Soon’s push) finally sinks in but did not analyse it much. He texts Bong Soon, asking if she has reach home.

At home, Min Hyuk is bothered by the thought of Guk Doo defending Bong Soon earlier.

Do family are perturbed by almost-abduction of Gyeongshim. Bong Soon sobs how nothing ever goes in her way – catching the killer, her one-sided love and her dream job. Mama cheers her up by offering her favourite food – chicken feet and it works for the simple minded girl.

Morning comes and Bong Soon texts Gyeongshim before leaving for work. She passes by the subway area again, not noticing the killer, watching her from a distance. Secretary Gong greets her at Ainsoft and amazes at Bong Soon’s success in catching the blackmailer. Apparently, he was told the culprit is a psychopath, instead of Min Hyuk’s half-brothers. Bong Soon stays quiet and did not correct him.

On her desk, she finds a new laptop and turns it on, only to be startled by its wallpaper – Min Hyuk’s wincing picture. Min Hyuk waltzes in and greets her warmly, asking her if she had slept well, then answering himself, that he slept well. The laptop is for Bong Soon to practice/prepare herself for game development skill. Min Hyuk lingers around to see her reaction to the wallpaper, but she gestures for him to leave, before slowly turns on the screen, trying hard not to get heart attack.

Down at the police station, Guk Doo warns Gwang Bok, eyes glowing with malevolence, not to harrass Bong Soon again. On his way out, Gwang Bok strike a plant with his stick and cryptically says that it’s fake.

Dobong-dong’s serial kidnapping is now all over the news and the case is officially an open investigation. Guk Doo’s team are off the case, with a new special team formed.

Killer is indeed the owner of the junkyard, seated in the midst of scraps, watching the news on his laptop. Sinister smile spotted on his face.

Min Hyuk and Bong Soon are engrossed with the news too as anchorwoman narrates the tyranny resonates other violence against women over the world, calling for “Reclaim the Internet” movement.

Bong Soon designs her game character which models after herself, then leaves for washroom break. Min Hyuk takes the opportunity to peeks at her work, only to find the wallpaper is now Jo In Sung. He changes back to his winking picture, just when Secretary Go announces the arrival of Papa Ahn.

Papa Ahn is worried about the next board meeting but Min Hyuk assures him that everything will go smoothly. Then Papa Ahn brought up the subject – to announce Min Hyuk’s engagement during the board meeting, but before that, Bong Soon is to meet the family. He leaves but Min Hyuk looks uneasy because he had lied about his relationship.

Bong Soon is back to her laptop and startled again by the changed wallpaper, grudgingly changes it back to Jo In Sung. She curtails her work to read the news which headlines the serial kidnapping.

Both police department and Mama’s neighbourhood association are thrown into chaos and we see the two sides having their respective emergency meeting. Bizarrely both side seems to be telepathically connected, with each of the ladies’ questions being answered by chief police at the same moment.

Guk Doo’s Team Lead isn’t happy with the special team and orders his team to catch the killer before the new team arrives.

Min Hyuk catches Bong Soon eyeing the development team in adoration, and jumps on her. She is now motivated for whatever training he’s going to throw at her, and claims she will catch the killer. They retreat to the training hall and have a lesson on defense. Min Hyuk demonstrates some defense moves haughtily until it’s time for Bong Soon to show her skill. She trounces him with her supposedly Jujitsu.

Bong Soon’s training progresses, and she jogs faster, getting better at boxing, perfect rope skipping and punching without rupturing the sandbags now. In voiceover, she narrates – “I am Strong Woman Do Bong Soon!”

School bullies are on rubbish picking duty again, when they take issue with Baek Tak’s minion for littering ciggarette butt. Altercation ensues and the younger ones are soon defeated on the ground. They call Bong Soon for help and their noonim, although annoyed at being bothered, arrives.

Baek Tak’s minion easily recognizes her as the notorious Do Bong Soon but aren’t intimidated by her peanut-sized stature. One tries to punch Bong Soon, only for her to dodge easily, before she knocks them all to the ground. (Haha..) She even removes one of the minion’s teeth by flicking them like alkkagi. Behind her, the school kids cheers excitedly at the triumph.

Baek Tak is again informed of Bong Soon’s winning over his men and goes balistic, wondering who is backing her. Amusingly, someone answers, “She’s a freelancer and rumour has it, she’s with Taiwan (triad).” Baek Tak declares her as Enemy #1!

Back at hospital, Gyeongshim notes that Bong Soon’s hug is not hurting her anymore. Bong Soon whines about Bong Ki still seeing Hee Jin, and Gyeongshim jokes that she will date Bong Ki too, but not before she dated Guk Doo first. Bong Soon is adamant that lovers shouldn’t break their promise easily. Gyeongshim launches into her speech that love is unpredictable and who knows, Bong Soon might fall in love with Min Hyuk.

Meanwhile, Guk Doo seems to understand the same hypothesis as Gyeongshim now, and meet up with Hee Jin to apologize – he had not given his whole heart to Hee Jin because there’s someone else in his heart all the while. They have a clean break up now.

Gyeongshim is finally back at Do Residence, with Bong Soon fussing after her not to exert herself. Right on time, she receives messages from her eccentric CEO.

Min Hyuk : “Are you asleep?”
Bong Soon : “Yes.”
Min Hyuk : “Then wake up quickly.”
Bong Soon : “I don’t want to.”
Min Hyuk : “I want you to go somewhere with me.”
Bong Soon : “I am going back to sleep.”

Min Hyuk offers to double her pay for working during weekend, which makes her reconsiders. She then wonders why he requests for her to groom herself nicely, only to be informed he is coming now to pick her up for a family gathering.

With impeccable timing, Mama Bong Soon walks in and is thrilled by the news.

The said ‘son-in-law’ arrives, Mama welcomes and coerce-forces him into their house for breakfast. Their table is laid with a feast that can be easily confused as lunch, shocking everyone. Initally, Min Hyuk is awkward at Mama’s overly friendliness, but later clearly enjoys the family warmth.

On a totally different ambience, Bong Soon has to have breakfast with Min Hyuk’s family too, and she raises her wages to triple.

Papa Ahn asks intimidately why she likes Min Hyuk, to which she answers, “Because he is good lookin.” Cold wind literally blows through the non-responsive family members (lol, disagree that much?). She adds on, “Because he has great personality.” Again, it’s met with silence.

Bong Soon finally chirps, “Because he is crazy.” And the family members unanimously agrees, immediately dig into the food. (HAHA.) Papa looks incredulous at first, then bursts into laughter with Min Hyuk glaring daggers at Bong Soon.

Papa Ahn has alone-time with Bong Soon and he bemoans how Min Hyuk used to date a lot of girls until he stopped seeing them suddenly. He entrusts her to take good care of him.

In Min Hyuk’s car, Bong Soon recollects Gyeongshim and Guk Doo’s words that Min Hyuk is not a gay. She’s deep in her thoughts and forgot to latch on her seat belt. Min Hyuk stops his car to help her with it. The close proximity fluttered them both and Min Hyuk breaks away first.

Min Hyuk didn’t send her back home but makes another stop at a place full of pine trees, citing to meet the woman he loved. Turns out, this is the place where his mum was commemorated, with a tree bearing her name. He puts down a bouquet of flower and silently tells his mother. “This is the person I wanted to show you.”

Later, they stroll along the river and he quotes from movie When Harry Met SallyNo man wants to be friends with a charming woman”.

Min Hyuk : “Your friend likes you very much. Keeping you as friend is a hard thing to do, especially for a man. He thinks keeping you as friend is the only way not to lose you.”

(Interesting.. because the term ‘your friend’ could meant Guk Doo or Min Hyuk himself.)

Bong Soon is positive that Guk Doo is just a friend.

Min Hyuk : “It’s easy to become lovers from friends, if one person takes a step closer.”

With these words, he takes one step closer to Bong Soon and they share a charged moment. (Is that honey dripping from his eyes?) He walks away and Bong Soon is obviously moved. She thinks to herself, “One step. There’s no such step between Guk Doo and I. But that day, this person came one step closer to me.”

OMG!

At police station, the Special Investigation Unit has taken over the case but Team Lead insists on having their own investigation too. They finally have a break, in form of a black box footage of the ballerina’s car. As the road taken by killer leads to a shortcut in Dobong-dong, Guk Doo finally makes the connection with the asphalt smell – the junkyard. He rushes out.

The play actor is here to give his statement. His shoes were stolen from the dressing room while he’s on stage. Guk Doo visits the junkyard again and smells the ground paving. The shifty employee is there again without his boss around.

Residents of Dobong-dong are now extra-vigilant at night, walking in pairs or group at night.

Killer is in a room full with monitors, including a screen that spies on the police station! He had planted hidden camera when he was at the police station to give statement as witness.

Mama Bong Soon spotted Mama Guk Do chatting happily with Papa Bong Soon in walnut shop. She saunters in and chastises Mama Guk Doo for carrying a smile in the midst of rampant crimes, when her son had done nothing to help. Mama Guk Doo quickly slips away, leaving the husband and wife to their argument. Papa finally had enough and tries to abandon his post, but Mama grabs him by the collar.

Later, the consequences of fighting Mama is seen all over Papa’s bruised face as he pitifully continues to work in the shop. Mama must had beaten him up! Her two friends are now looking at him with sympathies.

The gangsters have a seminar!! And a certain Charles Go was introduced as the motivational speaker. His qualification is amusingly impressive – Harvard MBA graduate, a famous author and an economic expert. He presents his finding on Baek Tak Development and pin points its main obstacle as Do Bong Soon, even presenting charts and bar tables!

He gives a certain solution plan with the term “Dachimawa Lee” (I looked it up and it’s a Korean spy movie). This sends all the minions standing in ovation and applaud! In order to lure Bong Soon out for a group fight, Charles Go presents his secret weapons –voice phishing by a pair of gagman. It’s hilarious when Baek Tak wonders if Charles had kidnapped the celebrities and if they are expensive.

Bong Soon visits Bong Ki at the hospital and give him some allowance from her salary. He asks for her opinion on dating Hee Jin, to which Bong Soon expresses it’s not the right thing to do. As she turns to leave, Bong Ki tells her to try dating too.

Bong Soon : “With whom?”

Bong Ki : “With Ahn Min Hyuk. He’s decent and he’s not a gay. I can tell as a man.”

Bong Soon scoffs that Bong Ki had been brainwashed by Mama and left.

Gwang Bok helps to prepare the gangster for the fight, giving them all sorts of weapon. Baek Tak yells at them, they will become laughing stock for using weapons on a girl. He excludes Gwang Bok out from the fight.

Papa Bong Soon is having a great time, dancing to a trot song …. Because Mama is away on a trip! Min Hyuk is in the area (really?) and wants to pick Bong Soon up for their last training session. Bong Soon finally reads the letter from Grandma, encouraging her to embrace the strength. Bong Soon takes out a box containing a pink hoodie. THAT PINK HOODIE!

The gagman pair makes the call to Bong Soon and the woman is good at  impersonating Mama Bong Soon, pretending being kidnapped. Bong Soon informs Gyeongshim and frantically runs out, missing Min Hyuk who is waiting for her by the road. Gyeongshim calls through Mama and realises it’s a ploy.

Bong Soon takes a taxi to warehouse area when she receives a call from Min Hyuk, wondering what takes her so long. She tells him her mother is kidnapped, and hangs up without telling him her location. He starts to drive around, using GPS to track her.

Gyeongshim can’t get through to Bong Soon so they inform Guk Doo who immediately calls control tower to track Bong Soon’s wristwatch.

Bong Soon arrives at an empty warehouse and soon is confronted by Baek Tak and a big group of men. She holds her anger and asks about her mother’s whereabouts. Gyeongshim’s call finally gets through, to tell her Mama is alright. With Mama off the equation, Bong Soon hangs up and Baek Tak launches into his talk about settling the score with her. To top it off, he orders Bong Soon to kneel down so they can take a video of her apologizing to them.

Bong Soon jeers that Baek Tak will be the one kneeling down, not her. Unfazed, she takes out two walnuts from pocket and crushes them barehanded. As if sensing the similarity, the men instinctively place their hands protectively over their manhood. Gezz..

Badass Bong Soon beckons for them to come and fight her.
