Ipoh has always been our favourite stop whenever we are going to Penang because of Onn Kee Chicken Rice. It took us 6 years to finally ditch Onn Kee for once and came to Foh San Dim Sum as we were apprehensive about dim sum in Ipoh, having been disappointed by Ming Court (also another famous dim sum in Ipoh).
With over 40 years of history, Foh San Dim Sum has a great deal of regulars be it the local people of Ipoh and even travelers. It used to be a smaller establishment and customers had to wrestle for a table and waiting by the tables like hungry vultures. This has since improved a lot since they moved to this double storey building although I heard the wait will still be long on weekends. We are in luck as we went on a Monday. A lot of customers but practically no waiting.
The Service :
The service are good too and we don’t have to get to the counter to get our dim sum but instead just order from the waitress. They even bring the pre-steamed dim sum in their cart where you can have a look before you decide to order. So much better than looking at a menu, right? Any top up dished, we can always walk to the counters with our order chit.
Does Foh San Dim Sum taste good?
Yes, they taste even better than Kam Hin in PJ (which had gone downhill years ago). The meats (in dimsum) are fresh and the chee cheong fun (rice roll) are soft and more translucent. The char siew pau impressed us for the fluffiness and the delactable not-too-sweet char siew fillings.
